The KENNAMETAL 2047436 is a KSEM-series carbide replaceable tip drill designed for high-performance hole-making in steel and similar ferrous workpiece materials. The tip is manufactured from solid carbide in the KC7315 grade, a fine-grain PVD-coated substrate with a TiAlN finish that supports elevated cutting speeds while maintaining edge integrity. The drill cuts a 1-inch (25.40 mm) diameter bore with a 140-degree included point angle, a geometry that promotes self-centering and reduces thrust load at entry. With two helical flutes and a two-margin configuration, chip evacuation and bore finish remain consistent across a wide range of feed rates. The replaceable-tip format lets technicians swap worn inserts at the machine without removing the shank body, reducing downtime in production environments.
This drill is suited to production machining applications in job shops, manufacturing cells, and toolroom environments where steel is the primary workpiece material (ISO material group P). The KSEM platform is engineered to handle demanding drilling conditions including inclined entry and exit surfaces, stacked-plate setups, and standard through-hole operations. The helical-flute, regular-spiral design supports both dry and wet cutting cycles. The replaceable tip seats into the body using a clamp-style holding method, maintaining concentricity and repeatability across multiple tip changes.
Designed for use with the KENNAMETAL KSEM modular drill body system using insert seat size 5. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material group P). Compatible with machining centers and CNC turning equipment equipped to accept the KSEM shank body. Specific machine and holder compatibility should be verified against the KSEM body selection guide prior to ordering.
Installation and tip replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Before changing the tip, ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out per your shop lockout/tagout procedure. Use the manufacturer-specified torque tool and seating procedure for the KSEM clamp mechanism to ensure concentricity and avoid tip damage. Do not exceed the recommended cutting parameters for the workpiece material and grade combination.
