The KENNAMETAL 2045293 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable drilling applications where cutting performance and edge integrity are critical. This insert carries the DFTHP style designation with Kennametal grade KC7140, a PVD-applied TiN and TiCN dual-layer coating engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert features an 84-degree trigon shape with an inscribed circle of 6 mm (0.2362 inches), a thickness of 0.0965 inches (approximately 3.97 mm along length), and a 0.40 mm corner radius (0.0157 inches). It is intended for installation and replacement by machinists, tooling technicians, and CNC operators working in metal-cutting environments.
This insert is suited for indexable drilling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a C5 or C6 material grade carbide is appropriate. The HP chipbreaker geometry is designed to manage chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole drilling applications. Typical use cases include production machining on CNC lathes and machining centers where drill insert replacement cycles are frequent and consistent edge geometry is required. The insert size designation is 030204.
Designed as an OEM-style indexable drill insert replacement for DFTHP-style insert seats accepting a 030204 insert size with a 6 mm inscribed circle. Confirm seat geometry and clamping configuration against your drill body specifications before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a locked-out, tagged-out state before removing or seating any indexable insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the tool manufacturer's specified seating method, and verify the insert is fully seated against all locating surfaces before resuming operation. Inspect the insert pocket for wear, debris, or damage prior to each insert change.
