Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1988099 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. Built from solid carbide and coated with TiAlN, it delivers extended tool life and heat resistance in demanding production environments. The bit features a 140-degree point angle with web thinning for reduced thrust and cleaner entry. At 6.90 mm in diameter with a 79.00 mm overall length, it fits applications where a shorter, more rigid drill profile reduces deflection. Machining professionals, toolroom operators, and CNC setup technicians use this bit in production drilling operations on cast iron and steel workpieces.

This drill bit is suited for screw machine operations, CNC machining centers, and manual drill press applications where tight tolerances and consistent hole quality are required. The B966A series is engineered for primary use in cast iron and steel. The straight cylindrical shank accommodates standard drill chucks and collet systems. With a maximum drilling depth of 24.00 mm, it is optimized for shorter-depth, high-accuracy bores rather than deep-hole applications. The regular spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation in both through-hole and blind-hole drilling.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction with TiAlN coating for heat resistance and extended tool life
  • 140-degree point angle with web-thinned, parallel web configuration for reduced entry thrust
  • 6.90 mm cutting diameter with a tolerance of +0.006 to +0.021 mm for precision fitment
  • Straight cylindrical shank at 8.00 mm diameter for compatibility with standard chucks and collets
  • Regular spiral flute geometry with 34.00 mm flute length for reliable chip evacuation
  • Rated for cast iron and steel per Dynapoint High Performance grade KC7315 material specification

Compatibility

Designed for use in cast iron and steel workpieces. Compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems that accept an 8.00 mm straight shank. Conforms to DIN 6537K specification. Part of the KENNAMETAL B966A series, Drill Bit Size Range 6.50 mm to 8.00 mm.

Installation Notes

Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machining professional with the machine powered down and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Ensure the chuck or collet is clean and the shank is fully seated before securing. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against the material being drilled before running; consult the appropriate cutting data for cast iron or steel with TiAlN-coated carbide tooling. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so adequate external cooling or dry-cutting parameters should be confirmed before use.
