The KENNAMETAL 1953323 is an indexable grooving and cutoff toolholder designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built on the A4SM toolholder style, it accepts A4..04.. series inserts secured by a clamp-style holding method. The toolholder features a 3/4 x 3/4 inch square shank measuring 3.622 inches in length and an overall length of 5 inches. It supports a minimum groove width of 4 mm (0.157 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 14 mm (0.55 inches). This is a right-hand configuration, suited for standard lathe setups where the tool approaches the workpiece from the operator side. Machinists and toolroom professionals use it for grooving, parting, and cutoff applications in production and job-shop environments.
The 1953323 is used in external grooving and cutoff operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. It fits lathes and turning centers with 3/4-inch square shank tool stations. The clamp-style insert retention and A4 series insert system make it appropriate for interrupted cuts, undercuts, and straight parting operations where repeatable insert indexing is required. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or mist coolant must be applied externally. The toolholder is suited for production turning environments where consistent groove geometry and insert changeover speed matter.
Compatible with A4..04.. series indexable inserts. Designed for use in external turning and cutoff operations on lathes and turning centers equipped with 3/4-inch square shank toolholding systems. Part of the Kennametal A4 series grooving system.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and all motion arrested before changing or indexing inserts. Torque the insert clamp screw to the value specified in the Kennametal A4 series tooling documentation for this insert seat size. Confirm shank seating and overhang are within the machine manufacturer guidelines before resuming cutting operations.
