Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1940986 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG432RP geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and graded KC5010. It belongs to the KENLOC series and features an 80-degree trigon (W-shape) insert body with a neutral hand orientation and negative rake and side clearance angles. The insert measures 8.69 mm (0.684 decimal inches) in length with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and a 1/32 inch (0.0313 inch) corner radius. With six cutting edges available per insert, it is engineered for roughing and medium machining operations and is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists on indexable toolholders configured for WNMG-style inserts.

This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials. The KC5010 grade delivers high to moderate wear resistance combined with toughness across ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S applications. It is appropriate for both light production and demanding roughing passes where a TiAlN PVD coating provides thermal and abrasion resistance. The RP chip breaker geometry supports chip control across a range of feed rates and depths, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).

Key Features

  • TiAlN PVD coating for high wear resistance and thermal stability on steel and stainless steel
  • 80-degree trigon (WNMG) insert shape with six available cutting edges per insert
  • RP chip breaker geometry optimized for roughing and medium machining applications
  • Negative rake and side clearance with chamfered and honed cutting edge preparation
  • Compatible with clamp and pin insert holding methods
  • Meets ANSI and ISO insert standards (ANSI: WNMG432, ISO: WNMG080402)

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for KENLOC series indexable turning toolholders accepting WNMG432 (ISO WNMG080402) insert geometry with clamp or pin holding.

Installation Notes

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for debris before installation to ensure proper insert support and edge integrity.
