The KENNAMETAL 1937960 is an indexable boring bar designed for internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Built to the A-SCLD-S toolholder style, it accepts CD.. 120605 inserts secured by a screw-clamp holding method, providing repeatable positioning and quick insert changes at the machine. The bar features a 0.204 inch minimum bore diameter and a 3/8 inch shank diameter, with an overall length of 2.5 inches. A positive rake geometry with a 5-degree rake angle and a 95-degree lead angle reduces cutting forces and promotes clean chip evacuation in tight bore profiles. Coolant-through capability via a 0.040 inch coolant hole delivers fluid directly to the cutting zone for thermal control and chip flushing.
This boring bar is suited for small-diameter internal finishing and semi-finishing passes in steel, stainless, cast iron, and non-ferrous alloys. It fits applications where bore depth does not exceed 0.500 inches and where a right-hand cut orientation is required. Machinists and CNC turning specialists use this bar in production and job-shop environments where consistent tool life and insert indexability are priorities. The screw-clamp design supports fast insert swaps without removing the bar from the holder, reducing downtime between passes.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in E-stop or safe state before changing inserts or mounting the bar. Secure the shank in the boring bar holder to the torque specification listed in the tooling system documentation — do not over-torque the insert screw, as this can damage the screw or pocket seat. Verify runout and tool offset after mounting before taking the first cut.
