The KENNAMETAL 1937550 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. Featuring a triangular geometry with a 60-degree included angle and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability when machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The insert measures 0.2772 inches in length and width with an inscribed circle of 0.1600 inches and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). It is designated for left-hand cutting operations and uses screw-on holding, providing secure clamping during high-demand turning operations. Grade KC5010 is the manufacturer-assigned grade for this insert.
This insert is suited for turning applications on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The positive rake geometry and common chipbreaker design support controlled chip evacuation during general turning. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm), it is intended for finishing and light roughing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in metalworking and aerospace manufacturing will encounter this insert style regularly in turning tool holders configured for screw-on TDHH-style inserts.
Designed for use in screw-on style turning tool holders accepting TDHH insert style. Compatible with tool holders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for this insert geometry. Verify tool holder specifications against insert size code 1280751 and left-hand designation before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the tool holder manufacturer's specified torque — do not over-torque, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Confirm left-hand orientation of the insert matches the tool holder pocket before securing.
