The KENNAMETAL 1909791 is a solid carbide turning insert with PVD-applied TiAlN coating, designed for precision metal cutting operations. Carrying the industry designation TPGT21505LF, this insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle. The LF chip breaker geometry is engineered for finishing and light machining passes, where controlled chip formation and surface finish consistency matter. With a 0.25 inch inscribed circle and a corner radius of approximately 0.008 inches, this insert is suited to close-tolerance turning work on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys. The KC5010 grade delivers high wear resistance across a range of difficult-to-machine workpiece materials. Installation uses the screw-on holding method.
This insert is intended for use on CNC turning centers and manual lathes in industrial and precision machining environments. Typical operations include OD turning, facing, and boring at light depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.049 inches (1.25 mm). This insert is installed and replaced by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified insert screw to seat the insert without over-tightening, which can crack the carbide body. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
