Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1871318 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNGG430LF geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and graded KC5010. It belongs to the KENLOC series and is designed for external turning, facing, and boring operations. The insert features an 80-degree trigon (W-shape) with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.004-inch corner radius. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining passes. Six usable cutting edges maximize tool life per insert. The KC5010 grade delivers high to moderate wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, and superalloys.

This insert is suited for CNC turning centers and lathes performing finishing and light roughing cuts on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The negative rake geometry and honed cutting edge style are appropriate for stable, chatter-free cuts in interrupted and continuous operations. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and light boring where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are priorities. The KENLOC clamping system holds the insert securely via clamp and pin, supporting both high-speed production and precision low-volume work.

Key Features

  • KC5010 grade with TiAlN PVD coating for high wear resistance on steel and stainless steel
  • LF chip breaker optimized for finishing and light machining operations
  • 80-degree trigon insert shape (W) with neutral hand for versatile application
  • Six cutting edges per insert for extended tool economy
  • Honed cutting edge style for improved edge stability and reduced built-up edge
  • Compatible with ANSI standard WNGG4302 and ISO standard WNGG080401 designations

Compatibility

Designed as a KENLOC series replacement insert conforming to ANSI insert code WNGG4302 and ISO insert code WNGG080401. Compatible with tool holders specifying WNGG-style inserts with clamp and pin retention and a 0.5-inch inscribed circle.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician on a CNC or manual lathe. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct KENLOC clamp and pin hardware to secure the insert; do not overtighten with impact tooling. Inspect the insert seat and pocket for chips or debris before each insert change to maintain proper seating and dimensional accuracy.
