The KENNAMETAL 1871202 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPMT2151UF geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and graded KC5010. The triangular insert profile delivers three usable cutting edges with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a positive side clearance, reducing cutting forces during finishing operations. At 11 mm in length with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, this insert is sized for light-to-moderate material removal where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. The UF chip breaker designation targets finishing passes, and the honed cutting edge style supports consistent performance at tighter depths of cut. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring applications on a screw-on toolholder system. The KC5010 grade targets steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, with cast iron and aluminum covered as secondary applications. The high wear-resistance profile of the KC5010 grade suits continuous cuts and situations where tool life consistency matters more than interrupted-cut toughness. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm. The insert conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with the ANSI code TPMT2151 and the ISO equivalent TPMT110204, making it straightforward to cross-reference across toolholder catalogs.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and all axes locked before changing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench when tightening the screw-on mounting fastener to avoid cracking the carbide or stripping the pocket. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination will affect runout and cutting-edge life.
