The KENNAMETAL 1871169 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT2151UF configuration, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process. Designated grade KC5010, this insert is engineered for finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a sharp, precise cutting geometry, while the UF chip breaker and honed cutting edge style support low-force, high-wear-resistance cutting in demanding turning applications. With a positive rake angle and positive side clearance, it is suited for screw-on toolholders in standard DCMT-style pockets. Each package contains one insert, with a minimum order quantity of five units.
This insert is intended for CNC lathe and turning center applications where finishing passes on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium are required. Typical use cases include external turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. The KC5010 grade offers high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance with toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece material groups, making it a versatile finishing insert for production and job-shop environments. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in DCMT-compatible toolholders.
Designed for use in DCMT-style screw-on toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Primary workpiece material codes: P, M, K, N, S. Secondary workpiece material codes: N, P, S.
Installation is performed by machinists using the appropriate Torx or hex key driver specified for the toolholder. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or changing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before securing the clamp screw. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm) specified for finishing applications with this insert geometry.
