The KENNAMETAL 1871090 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TCMT2152LF geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and manufactured under the KC5010 grade. It carries a 60-degree triangular shape with a neutral hand orientation and a screw-on holding method. The insert measures 11.00 mm (0.4331 inches) in length with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The honed cutting edge and LF chip breaker are designed to handle interrupted cuts and demanding finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The PVD TiAlN coating provides heat and wear resistance needed when cutting these demanding materials at elevated speeds. With three available cutting edges and a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, the insert delivers consistent chip control across a range of material conditions. It is intended for use in production machining environments where tool life and edge consistency are critical. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).
The 1871090 follows ANSI and ISO industry standards for TCMT-style screw-on inserts. It is compatible with toolholders designed for TCMT 2152 insert geometry using a screw-on clamping method. Verify toolholder manufacturer specifications before installing.
This insert is installed by machinists using a torx or hex key to seat the screw-on clamp — consult the toolholder manufacturer for the correct fastener specification. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating for the insert geometry in use.
