The KENNAMETAL 1871040 is a solid carbide turning insert with a WPMT3252LF geometry and KC5010 grade, finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It features an 80-degree trigon (W-shape) with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a positive side clearance, making it well-suited for finishing and light machining operations. The insert has an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches, an insert length of 0.513 inches, a thickness of 0.1563 inches, and a corner radius of 0.0313 inches. With three cutting edges and screw-on holding method, it delivers consistent performance across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloy applications where high to moderate wear resistance is required.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations in CNC and manual lathe environments. Its KC5010 grade targets steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum (N), and superalloys and titanium (S) as primary workpiece materials. The LF chip breaker is optimized for finishing and light machining, producing controlled chip formation at moderate to high surface speeds. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). It is appropriate for use in both production and repair shop settings where close-tolerance finishes are required and tool change frequency must be minimized.

This insert is installed by a machinist or toolroom technician using the appropriate screw-on clamping hardware for WPMT toolholders. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before performing any insert change. Do not overtighten the clamping screw; use the torque value specified by the toolholder manufacturer.
