The KENNAMETAL 1871035 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBMT222LF geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process using the KC5010 manufacturer grade. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch (0.0313-inch) corner radius. The insert carries a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a honed cutting edge style, making it well suited for finishing and light machining operations. Two cutting edges are available per insert. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this product.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. Its KC5010 grade targets steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials, delivering high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness across those material families. The screw-on holding method and positive side clearance geometry make it compatible with VBMT-style toolholders used in CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in VBMT-style screw-on toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code VBMT222 and ISO insert code VBMT110308. Suitable for multi-use turning applications including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified screw to seat the insert without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
