The KENNAMETAL 1871021 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation DCMT432LF and ISO designation DCMT150408, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process under the KC5010 manufacturer grade. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a positive rake angle of 5 degrees with a positive side clearance. The insert measures 15.50 mm (0.6102 inches) in length with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch (0.0313 inches) corner radius. Designed for the LF chip breaker geometry, it targets finishing and light machining operations. The screw-on holding method and honed cutting edge style make it a reliable choice for precision turning applications.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations in a wide range of workpiece materials. Its KC5010 grade and TiAlN PVD coating are engineered for high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous (N), and superalloys and titanium (S) workpiece classifications. It is appropriate for use in both light production and maintenance shop environments where consistent surface finish is required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops, production facilities, and toolroom settings are the primary installers.

Insert installation and replacement should be performed by qualified machinists following the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for screw-on DCMT-style inserts. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key torque driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw without over-tightening. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and accurate cutting geometry.
