The KENNAMETAL 1870992 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CPMT21505LF and ISO designation CPMT060202, finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating under the KC5010 grade. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a positive rake and side clearance geometry designed for finishing and light machining applications. The inscribed circle measures 0.2500 inches, insert length is 0.2539 inches (6.45 mm), and the corner radius is 0.0079 inches. It mounts via screw-on holding method and delivers two usable cutting edges per insert. This insert is used by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
The CPMT21505LF KC5010 is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light material removal passes where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are priorities. The KC5010 grade provides high to moderate wear resistance with a balance of toughness appropriate for challenging workpiece materials including superalloys and titanium. Each insert package contains one insert; minimum order quantity is 5 inserts.
Designed for use in screw-on style CPMT toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for CPMT21505 and CPMT060202 insert seats. Suitable for multi-use turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium as indicated by material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret or toolholder is secured before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque; do not over-tighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for debris or damage before seating a new insert to maintain proper seating and cutting-edge geometry.
