The KENNAMETAL 1870326 is a CPMT2151LF KT315 cermet turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a multilayer PVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and TiN applied over a cermet substrate, delivering wear resistance and edge retention across a range of workpiece materials. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape, a 0.25 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch corner radius. With a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle, it promotes clean chip formation and reduced cutting forces during turning, facing, and boring applications.
This insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron in both production and job-shop environments. It is a screw-on style insert with a neutral hand orientation, making it compatible with standard CPMT-style toolholders. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light feed rates, making it a practical choice for close-tolerance turning work where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace, automotive, and general machining will find it appropriate for high-speed, low-depth applications.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the screw-on retention screw to avoid cracking the insert or stripping the pocket seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for debris or wear before installing a new insert, as an unclean seat will affect runout and edge performance.
