The KENNAMETAL 1870044 is a solid carbide turning insert with a CNGG432LF geometry and KC5010 grade, PVD-coated with TiAlN for high wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a honed cutting edge style optimized for finishing and light machining operations. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.03125 inch corner radius, and a negative rake angle of 10 degrees, this insert delivers consistent surface finish in high-precision turning applications. It is designed for use in KENLOC-style toolholders and is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Its KC5010 grade provides high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. The LF chip breaker geometry targets finishing and light machining cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inch (1.25 mm). It is a multi-use insert appropriate for both light production runs and precision finishing passes on CNC lathes and turning centers.
Designed for use with KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNGG-style inserts. ANSI insert code CNGG432; ISO insert code CNGG120408. Insert holding methods include clamp and pin. Verify toolholder seat geometry and pocket dimensions before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer specification when tightening the clamping screw or pin. Inspect the insert seat and chip pocket for debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
