The KENNAMETAL 1870043 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CNGG431LF and ISO designation CNGG120404, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process under the KC5010 manufacturer grade. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a negative rake angle of 10 degrees, making it well suited for finishing and light machining operations. The insert measures 12.9 mm (approximately 0.508 inches) in length, features a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.1875-inch thickness, and a corner radius of 1/64 inch (0.0156 inches). Four cutting edges are available per insert. It is held in the toolholder by a clamp or pin method and belongs to the KENLOC series.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The KC5010 grade provides high to moderate wear resistance with balanced toughness across ISO material categories P, M, K, N, and S. It is intended for use by machinists and CNC turning center operators running production or job-shop work where consistent surface finish and edge life on difficult-to-machine alloys are required. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light-cut depths, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept CNGG431 inserts held by clamp or pin methods. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry matches the CNGG431 (ISO CNGG120404) insert style and negative-rake seat before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down, spindle locked, and all axes at a safe rest position. Use appropriate insert-handling tools to avoid contact with the cutting edge. Verify the toolholder pocket and clamping hardware are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Torque clamping screws according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications, not values specified here.
