Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1870022 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CNGG4305LF and ISO designation CNGG120402, finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating in the KC5010 grade. This insert carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a negative rake angle of 10 degrees, and a neutral hand orientation. The LF chip breaker geometry is designed for finishing and light machining operations. The cutting edges are honed, and the insert is held in a KENLOC-style toolholder via clamp or pin. With four usable cutting edges and a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm), it is suited for precise, low-stock-removal passes in CNC turning centers and manual lathes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.

This insert is applied in turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The KC5010 grade targets high wear-resistance across P, M, K, N, and S workpiece material categories, making it a versatile choice in job shops and production environments running a range of alloys. The 0.0079-inch corner radius supports controlled surface finishes in finishing-pass applications. It is cataloged under the KENNAMETAL KENLOC series and conforms to both ANSI and ISO insert standards.

Key Features

  • KC5010 PVD TiAlN coating delivers high wear-resistance on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape (CNGG) provides a strong cutting edge for finishing passes
  • LF chip breaker geometry optimized for finishing and light machining operations
  • Four cutting edges per insert maximize tool life and reduce per-edge cost
  • Honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping at low chip loads
  • Compatible with clamp and pin insert-holding methods for secure seating in KENLOC toolholders

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNGG4305 geometry inserts per ANSI and ISO standards.

Installation Notes

Insert replacement is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamp screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely — do not overtighten by feel alone. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear, debris, or damage before seating a new insert.
