The KENNAMETAL 1869975 is a DCMT3251LF KT315 cermet turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. It carries a multilayer PVD coating of TiN/TiCN/TiN over a cermet substrate, delivering high wear-resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a 7-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. Two cutting edges are available per insert. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining passes, making this insert a go-to choice for achieving tight tolerances and fine surface finishes in production environments.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations in both residential shop and production machining environments. Its screw-on holding method provides secure, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders. The KT315 grade is particularly effective when machining steel (P-class), stainless steel (M-class), and cast iron (K-class) at finishing-to-light-roughing parameters. Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a full stop, zero-energy state before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key driver specified for the toolholder clamping screw to seat the insert without over-torquing the screw. Verify the insert is fully seated against the pocket locating surfaces before resuming operation. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for seating torque and insert pocket maintenance.
