The KENNAMETAL 1869974 is a DCMT32505LF screw-on turning insert manufactured in a cermet substrate and finished with a multilayer PVD TiN/TiCN/TiN coating under the KT315 grade designation. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a 7-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. With an inscribed circle of 0.3750 inches, an insert length of 0.9156 inches, a thickness of 0.1563 inches, and a corner radius of 0.0079 inches, this insert is sized for precision finishing and light machining operations on ferrous workpiece materials. It provides two cutting edges per insert and is held in place via screw clamping.
This insert is suited for finishing and light machining applications in turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Its KT315 cermet grade delivers high wear-resistance across three primary workpiece material categories: steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), and cast iron (ISO K). The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light chip loads and tight surface finish requirements, making this insert a practical choice for production turning on CNC lathes where consistent dimensional accuracy is required. Both ANSI and ISO standards are met, with ANSI insert code DCMT32505 and ISO insert code DCMT11T302.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for DCMT-style screw-on turning toolholders accepting a 32505 insert size. Meets ANSI and ISO dimensional standards (ANSI: DCMT32505, ISO: DCMT11T302), ensuring cross-reference compatibility with toolholder lines built to either standard.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque; do not over-tighten, as cermet substrates are brittle and susceptible to fracture under clamp stress. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a fresh edge.
