The KENNAMETAL 1868465 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation VNGP3305 and ISO designation VNGP160402, manufactured in the KC5010 grade within the KENLOC series. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, it delivers high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and superalloy workpiece materials. The 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert geometry features a neutral hand orientation, negative rake, and negative side clearance with a honed cutting edge. It provides four usable cutting edges and suits medium machining chip breaker operation. Licensed HVAC techs, machinists, and toolroom professionals install this insert in standard KENLOC-compatible toolholders for precision turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations.
This insert is suited for production and jobshop turning applications on steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum (N), and superalloys and titanium (S) workpiece materials. The KC5010 grade targets high to moderate wear resistance with balanced toughness, making it appropriate for interrupted and continuous cuts on ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys. The insert is held by clamp and pin method, consistent with standard KENLOC-series toolholding systems used in CNC lathes and manual turning centers.
Designed for use with KENLOC-series toolholders accepting VNGP-style inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. Compatible with ANSI and ISO standardized insert seats per ANSI and ISO specifications stated in product data. Clamp and pin holding method required.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret indexed to a safe position before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Torque the clamp fastener per the toolholder manufacturer specifications; do not substitute fastener hardware.
