The KENNAMETAL 1868462 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TNGP331 geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and assigned the KC5010 manufacturer grade. It carries a 60-degree triangular shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake and side clearance, making it suited for stable, controlled cutting operations. The insert measures 0.6496 inches in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. Six cutting edges are available per insert. The honed cutting edge style and medium machining chip breaker are designed to balance wear resistance with toughness across a range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install and index this insert type.
This insert is engineered for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, with cast iron and non-ferrous materials as secondary applications. The KC5010 grade is characterized as providing high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness for steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) material groups, with material grade ratings of C3 and C4. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with the ANSI insert code TNGP331 and the ISO insert code TNGP160404. The KENLOC series designates the insert holding method as clamp and pin.

Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torque wrench for clamping screws as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Do not use a damaged or chipped insert, as it may fracture during cutting.
