The KENNAMETAL 1868458 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNGP432 geometry, manufactured under the KENLOC series and graded KC5010. It features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating engineered for high wear-resistance across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys. The insert has a 90-degree square shape with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 3/16 inch thickness, and a 1/32 inch corner radius. Designed for medium machining chip-breaker operations, the neutral hand orientation and honed cutting edge make it suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC and conventional lathes.
This insert is intended for use in ferrous and non-ferrous turning applications in both production and job-shop environments. The SNGP432 geometry delivers 8 available cutting edges per insert through its negative rake, negative side clearance configuration, which extends tooling economy on high-volume runs. It is held in place using a clamp and pin system. Typical applications include external turning, face turning, and boring on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The KC5010 grade is rated for high wear-resistance to moderate toughness performance across ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting SNGP-style inserts with clamp and pin holding. Suitable for ANSI size code 432 and ISO size code 120408 toolholder seats. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping method before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Disengage machine power and confirm the spindle is fully stopped before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to release the clamping screw and pin; do not overtighten fasteners beyond toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
