The KENNAMETAL 1868454 is a solid carbide turning insert with an ANSI designation of DNGP432 and an ISO equivalent of DNGP150408, manufactured to KENNAMETAL grade KC5010. The insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that delivers high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloy workpiece materials. It carries a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32 inch corner radius. With four usable cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, it is designed for medium machining chip-breaker operation and suits high-volume production turning applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum (N), and superalloys and titanium (S) workpiece materials. It is part of the KENNAMETAL KENLOC series, which uses a clamp and pin insert-holding method. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry make it appropriate for rigid setups where surface finish and tool life predictability are priorities. Typical applications span both horizontal and vertical CNC turning centers in job shop and production environments.
Designed for use in DNGP-style toolholders within the KENNAMETAL KENLOC clamping system that accepts inserts with a clamp and pin holding method, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 3/16 inch insert thickness. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry against ANSI insert code DNGP432 or ISO insert code DNGP150408 before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Secure the clamp and pin per the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications and verify insert seating before resuming cutting operations. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the selected workpiece material and machine rigidity.
