The KENNAMETAL 1868453 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation DNGP431 and ISO designation DNGP150404, manufactured in the KC5010 grade. It features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that delivers high wear resistance across a range of primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The insert has a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a 0.5-inch inscribed circle. Corner radius measures 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch), and insert length is 15.5 mm (approximately 1.221 decimal inches). This insert is part of the KENLOC series and is designed for use by machinists and CNC lathe operators in precision turning applications.
The KENNAMETAL 1868453 is suited for medium machining operations including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. Its KC5010 grade is engineered to maintain high to moderate wear resistance and toughness when cutting steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum (N), and superalloys and titanium (S). The negative rake geometry and honed cutting edge provide stable, controlled chip formation in both roughing passes at shallow depths and consistent finish passes. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). This insert is a multi-use tool appropriate for production turning environments where insert longevity and consistent surface finish are priorities.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders that accept DNGP-style inserts with clamp and pin holding methods. Compatible with toolholders specifying a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch insert thickness, and negative side clearance (N tolerance, G clearance code). Verify toolholder specifications before ordering.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC lathe operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate KENLOC clamp and pin hardware to secure the insert; do not overtighten or substitute non-OEM clamping components. Inspect the pocket seat and clamp surfaces for chips or debris before installing a fresh insert edge.
