The KENNAMETAL 1868444 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the ANSI designation CNGP434 and ISO designation CNGP120416, finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating under the KC5010 grade. Belonging to the KENLOC series, it features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a negative rake and relief angle geometry. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, the insert length is 12.90 mm (approximately 0.508 inches), the insert thickness is 3/16 inches, and the corner radius is 1/16 inches (0.0625 inches). With four cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is engineered for steel, stainless steel, and superalloy applications requiring high to moderate wear resistance.
This insert is suited for medium machining operations including turning, facing, and boring on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. The KC5010 grade is characterized by high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum (N), and superalloy and titanium (S) workpiece categories. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). The chip breaker designation is Common, targeted at medium machining chip control. This insert is a multi-use tooling option for shops running varied material programs on a single holder setup.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for CNGP-style toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick insert with a clamp and pin holding method, conforming to ANSI and ISO CNGP standards.
Installation of turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a powered-down, locked-out state. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping components are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamp or pin — do not overtighten. Inspect the cutting edge condition before each use and index or replace the insert when wear exceeds acceptable limits for the application.
