The KENNAMETAL 1867001 is a solid carbide turning insert with an ANSI designation of CPGT32505HP and a manufacturer grade of KC5025. It features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which delivers moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert geometry is neutral hand with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and positive side clearance, making it well suited to finishing operations. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting edge profile. At 9.67 mm in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a corner radius of 0.0079 inches, this insert is sized for precision light-to-moderate depth finishing cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring applications in CNC lathes and turning centers. Its KC5025 grade is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, as well as superalloys and titanium, making it a versatile option for shops running varied material types. The HP chip breaker designation targets finishing operations where surface finish and dimensional control are the priority. It is appropriate for both production-volume and job-shop environments where a screw-on insert holding method is in use.
Designed for use in screw-on style turning toolholders that accept CPGT32505 or CPGT09T302 form-factor inserts. Suitable for multi-use applications including turning, facing, and boring on machine tool platforms accepting this ANSI and ISO standard insert geometry.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and in a safe, locked-out state before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Follow your shop's tooling management procedures for tracking cutting edge usage across both available edges.
