The KENNAMETAL 1866961 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCGT3252HP geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process. It carries the KC5025 manufacturer grade, which provides a balance of moderate wear resistance and toughness suited for a range of workpiece materials including stainless steel, steel, cast iron, aluminum, and superalloys. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, and a 7-degree relief angle. The cutting edge is honed, and the HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing operations. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC lathes and manual turning centers using screw-on toolholding systems.
The KENNAMETAL 1866961 is intended for external turning, facing, and boring applications in finishing passes. The positive side clearance and positive rake geometry make it particularly well-suited for finishing stainless steel and superalloys where surface finish and edge stability are critical. It is compatible with screw-on style toolholders accepting a CCGT 3252 or ISO CCGT09T308 insert seat. The HP chip breaker designation indicates a geometry designed to control chip flow and reduce built-up edge at lighter depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). This insert carries both ANSI and ISO standards classifications.

Install by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and seating specifications for screw-on insert systems. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and all motion has ceased before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating the new insert. Comply with applicable shop safety standards and machine guarding requirements during insert changeover.
