The KENNAMETAL 1866682 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBGT3305LF geometry, grade KC5025, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual turning applications. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a positive side clearance, making it well suited for finishing and light machining passes. A TiAlN PVD coating delivers moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The screw-on holding method and honed cutting edge style contribute to stable, repeatable performance. This insert is intended for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Its primary workpiece material classifications are P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (aluminum and non-ferrous), and S (superalloys and titanium), with stainless steel and superalloys listed as the primary targets for grade KC5025. It is appropriate for both production shops and job shops handling a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining cuts, helping control chip formation at lower depths of cut and feed rates.
Conforms to ANSI insert code VBGT3305 and ISO insert code VBGT160402. Compatible with VBGT-style screw-on toolholders designed for a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a ANSI size code of 3305. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping screw specification before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide body. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips, debris, or wear before seating the insert to ensure proper seating and runout control.
