The KENNAMETAL 1866681 is a VBGT330LF KC5025 solid carbide turning insert with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a positive rake and side clearance geometry suited for finishing and light machining operations. The insert measures 16.61 mm in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0039-inch corner radius. It uses a screw-on holding method and delivers two cutting edges per insert. Licensed HVAC and metalworking machinists, CNC turning center operators, and tool-crib technicians specify this insert for tight-tolerance external and internal turning passes.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. The KC5025 grade with TiAlN PVD coating is rated for moderate wear-resistance and toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and aluminum and non-ferrous (N) workpiece materials, with a primary suitability designation for stainless steel and superalloys and titanium (S). Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). The LF chip breaker geometry supports light chip loads and finishing surface quality requirements on precision components.
Designed for use in screw-on VBGT-style turning toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code VBGT3302 and ISO insert code VBGT160401. Verified compatible with workpiece materials coded P, M, K, N, and S per ISO material group classifications, with primary application in stainless steel and superalloy and titanium turning operations.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or tool-crib personnel on powered-down turning centers with spindle lockout confirmed before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct screw-torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the screw-on fastener, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excess clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Always verify insert orientation matches the neutral-hand designation of the toolholder before resuming cuts.
