The KENNAMETAL 1866653 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation TPGT3251LF and ISO designation TPGT16T304, finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and KC5025 grade. It features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle, delivering moderate wear resistance and toughness suited to finishing and light machining operations. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (0.375 inches), insert length is 0.6496 inches (16.50 mm), and the corner radius is 1/64 inches (0.0156 inches). Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in screw-on toolholders for external turning, facing, and boring applications.
This insert is designed for finishing and light machining passes on stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. It is a neutral-hand insert, making it suitable for both left- and right-hand toolholder setups. Typical applications include precision CNC turning centers and manual lathes where tight tolerances and a refined surface finish are required. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). The LF chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation during light finishing cuts.
Designed for use in screw-on TPGT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standard seat geometries. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel and heat-resistant alloys (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous metals (N), and superalloys and titanium (S). Verify toolholder pocket dimensions and screw-hole diameter (0.1732 inches) before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque-drive screw supplied or specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert in its pocket without over-tightening. Inspect the toolholder seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination at the seating surface will affect dimensional accuracy and edge life.
