The KENNAMETAL 1866646 is a solid carbide turning insert with a DCGT2150LF geometry and KC5025 grade, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. The insert features a TiAlN PVD coating applied over a carbide substrate, delivering moderate wear resistance and toughness across a range of workpiece materials. Key dimensions include a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0039-inch corner radius, and an overall insert length of 0.6104 inches (7.75 mm). The 55-degree diamond shape with positive rake and positive side clearance geometry makes this insert well suited for finishing and light machining passes where tight tolerances are required.
This insert is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators working with stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. The LF chip breaker geometry targets finishing and light machining applications, where controlled chip flow and surface finish quality are priorities. With two cutting edges per insert and a screw-on holding method, it fits standard DCGT-style toolholders used in production and job-shop environments. The KC5025 grade is rated for moderate wear resistance and toughness across P, M, K, N, and S workpiece material classifications per ISO standard designations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for DCGT-style screw-on toolholders accepting a 55-degree diamond insert with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, conforming to ANSI code DCGT21502 and ISO code DCGT070201.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion has ceased before accessing the toolholder. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the screw-on clamp screw; do not overtighten, as this can damage the insert seat or the carbide insert body. Verify insert seating and edge orientation before resuming cutting operations.
