The KENNAMETAL 1866643 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the industry standard designation DCGT215X0LF in the KC5025 grade. It features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiAlN coating and a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake and positive side clearance geometry. The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches and the insert length is 7.75 mm (0.6104 inches), with a corner radius of 0.0015 inches. Designed for the LF chip breaker geometry, this insert targets finishing and light machining operations. It is held in place via a screw-on mounting method and carries two usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations across a range of workpiece materials. The KC5025 grade delivers moderate wear-resistance and toughness, making it appropriate for stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It targets precision finishing passes where tight tolerances and fine surface finishes are required. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians working in job shops, production machining environments, and maintenance machining applications will find this insert a direct fit for compatible DCGT-style screw-on toolholders.
Designed for use in DCGT-style screw-on turning toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with toolholders accepting a DCGT 215X0 insert size with a 2.80 mm (0.1102 inch) hole diameter and a 3/32 inch insert thickness.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque; do not overtighten, as this can chip the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new edge.
