The KENNAMETAL 1866623 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CPGT3252LF and ISO designation CPGT09T308, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process. Carrying the KC5025 manufacturer grade, this insert is engineered for finishing and light machining operations. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and a positive side clearance, producing clean, efficient cuts with reduced cutting forces. The screw-on holding method ensures secure seating in compatible toolholders. Two cutting edges are available per insert, and the honed cutting edge style supports controlled chip formation across a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations in both residential shop and industrial production environments. Its KC5025 grade provides moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing passes and light material removal, making this insert appropriate for applications where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, supporting use in a wide range of screw-on insert toolholding systems.
Designed for use in screw-on style turning insert toolholders accepting CPGT3252 (ANSI) or CPGT09T308 (ISO) inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. Compatible with multi-use applications including turning, facing, and boring. Material grade ratings include C2 and C6.
This insert is installed and replaced by machinists or toolroom technicians following standard CNC or manual lathe insert change procedures. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure; do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure accurate positioning and full contact.
