The KENNAMETAL 1866620 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in lathe and boring applications. Manufactured to ANSI grade CPGT2152 and ISO grade CPGT060208, this insert carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, providing moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a positive side clearance, and a honed cutting edge. With a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it is sized for light finishing and semi-finishing passes. Mounting is via screw-on holding method, and the insert delivers two usable cutting edges per piece. Licensed HVAC techs, plumbers, electricians, and machinists working in precision turning will recognize the LF chip breaker designation as suited to finishing and light machining operations.
This insert is specified for turning, facing, and boring operations on stainless steel and superalloys as its primary workpiece materials, with rated applicability across steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous metals (N), and special or super alloys (S). The KC5025 grade delivers a balance of wear resistance and toughness that makes it well suited for interrupted cuts and challenging materials common in precision machining environments. It is sold in multiples of 5 and packaged individually, making it appropriate for shop floor replenishment in CNC turning centers and manual lathes alike.
Designed as a screw-on style replacement insert for CPGT2152 ANSI and CPGT060208 ISO toolholder pockets. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against KENNAMETAL toolholder documentation using the CPGT insert style and 2152 size code.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and spindle locked before seating or replacing the insert. Use the correct Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Verify insert seating and pocket cleanliness before resuming cuts. Dispose of worn inserts according to local regulations for carbide tooling waste.
