The KENNAMETAL 1866618 is a solid carbide turning insert with grade designation CPGT21505LF KC5025, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert geometry features a positive rake angle and positive side clearance, making it well suited for finishing and light machining operations. The insert measures 6.45 mm (0.2539 inches) in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0938-inch thickness, and a 0.0079-inch corner radius. With a neutral hand orientation and a honed cutting edge, this insert delivers moderate wear resistance and toughness across multiple workpiece material categories. It is screw-mounted and includes two cutting edges per insert.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations on stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. The KC5025 grade is rated for moderate wear resistance and toughness across P, M, K, N, and S material codes, making it a versatile choice for shops that run varied workpiece materials. Chip breaker designation LF targets finishing and light machining passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).
Designed for use in screw-on style turning toolholders that accept CPGT21505 (ANSI) or CPGT060202 (ISO) insert seat configurations. Suitable for multi-use applications including turning, facing, and boring.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing the insert, power down the machine and ensure the spindle is fully stopped. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
