The KENNAMETAL 1866361 is a ceramic turning insert carrying industry standard designation CNMA432T0820 in the KY3500 grade. This uncoated silicon nitride insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative rake angle and a T-Land cutting edge style. It is designed for high-speed turning, facing, and boring of cast iron workpieces where high wear resistance is the primary requirement. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert length is 0.5077 inches (12.90 mm), and the corner radius is 0.03125 inches (1/32 inch). Four cutting edges and a flat-top chip breaker geometry make this insert a multi-use option for cast iron machining operations. Installation is performed by licensed machinists or toolroom personnel on CNC or manual lathes.
This insert is suited for production turning, facing, and boring of cast iron components in both light and moderate stock-removal applications. The KY3500 grade is characterized as a silicon nitride ceramic optimized for cast iron (K-grade) material groups, delivering high wear resistance through moderate toughness. The KENLOC series designation indicates use with compatible KENNAMETAL KENLOC-style toolholders that accept CNMA-geometry inserts. The flat-top chip breaker and negative side clearance are best matched to rigid setups with sufficient machine horsepower to maintain consistent cutting conditions. Maximum recommended depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm).
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL KENLOC-series toolholders that accept CNMA-geometry inserts. Compatible applications include turning, facing, and boring. ANSI insert code CNMA432 and ISO insert code CNMA120408 may be used to cross-reference compatible toolholder seats from other manufacturers that accept this insert geometry.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten, as ceramic inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under clamping stress. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before each index to maintain accurate edge positioning.
