The KENNAMETAL 1865540 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG433 geometry, grade KC5010, with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It features a 60-degree triangular shape with a 1/2 inch inscribed circle, a 3/64 inch corner radius, and an 11-degree relief angle. The flat-top chip breaker and honed cutting edge support stable, consistent cuts at positive rake angles. This insert is engineered for turning, facing, and boring operations and is typically installed by machinists and CNC operators on metalcutting lathes and turning centers. The KC5010 grade targets high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium in production and job-shop environments. With three cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, it fits standard TPG-style toolholders used on manual and CNC turning equipment. The maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). The KENDEX series designation confirms compatibility with Kennametal KENDEX-style clamp-type toolholding systems. Applications include external turning, facing passes, and internal boring cycles on both ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for KENDEX-style toolholders — do not overtighten or substitute non-OEM clamping components. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp seat for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and avoid premature edge failure.
