The KENNAMETAL 1865536 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG323 geometry, part of the KENDEX series. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, this insert is designed for high wear-resistance across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. It features a 60-degree triangular shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 3/64 inch corner radius, and a flat-top chip breaker. With three usable cutting edges and a positive rake and side clearance, it is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers.
This insert is applied in external and internal turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It is best suited for finishing to light roughing cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). The KC5010 grade with TiAlN coating delivers high wear-resistance when machining steel and stainless steel, and maintains performance through moderate cuts on cast iron and nonferrous materials including aluminum. It is held in the toolholder via a top-clamp method and is compatible with standard TPG-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO specifications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard TPG-style clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code TPG323 and ISO insert code TPG160312. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and aluminum workpieces.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and tighten the clamp to the toolholder manufacturer's specified method before resuming operation. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or damage each time the insert is indexed to a fresh cutting edge.
