The KENNAMETAL 1865533 is a solid carbide turning insert in the KENDEX series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation TPG3205 and ISO designation TPG160302, featuring a 60-degree triangular shape with a TiAlN PVD coating and KC5010 grade. The insert measures 0.6496 inches in length with a 0.375 inch (3/8 inch) inscribed circle diameter and a corner radius of approximately 0.008 inches. With three usable cutting edges, a positive rake angle, and a flat-top chip breaker geometry, it is suited for high-wear-resistance turning across a range of work materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is engineered for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The KC5010 grade with TiAlN PVD coating delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it effective across primary material codes P, M, K, N, and S. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). The flat-top chip breaker and honed cutting edge style are well suited for finishing and light-to-moderate roughing passes. Secondary workpiece material codes N, P, and S are also supported. This insert is a multi-use tool appropriate for general turning centers in both production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use with KENDEX-series and TPG-style insert toolholders accepting ANSI size code 3205 or ISO size code 160302 inserts with a clamp holding method. Compatible with applications coded P, M, K, N, and S per ISO workpiece material classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, confirm the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a vise or toolholder fixture. Torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification — no generic value applies across all holders. Inspect the seating pocket and clamping pin for debris before seating the insert to ensure full contact and accurate cutting-edge presentation.
