Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1865436 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SPG321 geometry, part of the KENDEX series. It features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The insert has a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 1/8 inch thickness, and a 1/64 inch corner radius. With four usable cutting edges, a positive rake angle, and a flat-top chip breaker design, this insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations where consistent tool life and surface quality are priorities.

This insert is intended for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium applications. The KC5010 grade is characterized by high to moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making it appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes depending on depth of cut. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches. The flat-top geometry supports positive rake cutting, which reduces cutting forces and heat generation. Typical applications include CNC turning centers and manual lathes in production machining environments. The insert is held by a clamp-style toolholder using standard KENDEX-compatible tooling.

Key Features

  • SPG321 geometry with 90-degree square shape and positive 11-degree relief angle
  • TiAlN PVD coating for high wear resistance on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys
  • Four usable cutting edges for extended tooling economy
  • Flat-top chip breaker with positive rake for reduced cutting forces
  • Compatible with turning, facing, and boring operations
  • Meets ANSI and ISO standards; ANSI code SPG321, ISO code SPG090304

Compatibility

Designed for use with clamp-style KENDEX-compatible toolholders accepting SPG321 inserts. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. Material grade classifications C3 and C4 apply.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician using standard insert clamping hardware. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before seating or indexing the insert. Verify the insert pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before clamping to maintain proper seating and avoid insert breakage. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for the selected grade and workpiece material.
