The KENNAMETAL 1855578 is a carbide-class cermet grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the NG3094K insert style in the Top Notch series, it carries the KT315 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied multilayer TiN/TiCN/TiN coating for improved wear resistance and surface finish on the workpiece. The insert delivers a cutting width of 0.094 inches (2.39 mm) and a maximum depth of cut of 0.150 inches (3.81 mm). A positive rake angle of 10 degrees and the K chip breaker geometry help control chip flow in medium to fine finishing cuts. Installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians, this insert is a single-use, non-multi-use tooling component intended for right-hand cutting orientation.
This insert is suited for grooving operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces where cermet grade tooling excels in producing tight tolerances and good surface finishes at moderate to high cutting speeds. The Top Notch series tooling system is a common platform on production turning equipment. The insert fits standard Top Notch series grooving tool holders that accept the NG insert style and size 3094. Typical applications include external groove machining, undercut profiles, and recessing in both production and job-shop turning environments. The material grades C3 and C7 indicate suitability for finishing and light interrupted cuts on ferrous materials.
Designed as a replacement insert for Top Notch series grooving and parting tool holders that accept the NG insert style in size 3094. Confirm holder compatibility against the NG3094K insert designation before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered off and all axes at a safe home position. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the tool holder manufacturer to seat the insert — do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating. Replace the insert at the first sign of edge wear or chipping to prevent workpiece damage or tool holder damage.
