The KENNAMETAL 1854201 is a CPMT-style solid carbide turning insert with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. Designed for external turning operations, this insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a positive rake angle of 5 degrees. The KC5010 grade is engineered for high-speed, high-productivity cutting where edge toughness and thermal resistance are critical. The insert measures 5.65 mm in length, carries a 7/32-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The LF chipbreaker geometry promotes consistent chip control across a range of feed rates. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is suited for turning applications on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It performs well in ISO P, M, and S workpiece material categories, and is also applicable to secondary material codes N, P, and S. The screw-on holding method is compatible with standard CPMT-style toolholders. Typical use cases include finish and semi-finish turning on CNC lathes and turning centers where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).
Designed for use in CPMT-style screw-on toolholders. Compatible with ISO and ANSI standard toolholder systems accepting a CPMT 18151 insert with a 0.1043-inch (2.65 mm) hole diameter. Verify toolholder specifications before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC turning technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all energy sources are locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and screw type specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely without over-tightening. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
