The KENNAMETAL 1849983 is a solid carbide profiling and turning insert in the Top Notch series, designed for high-precision external and internal profiling operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This right-hand insert carries the KC5025 manufacturer grade, an ultra-fine grain carbide substrate with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating that supports cutting in demanding workpiece materials. The parallelogram-shaped body measures 0.3769 inches in length and 0.1250 inches thick, with a 0.0050-inch corner radius and a negative rake geometry. It is installed and replaced by licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians working in production turning environments.
This insert is suited for profiling and turning applications across a broad range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. The screw-held mounting method fits standard Top Notch series toolholders accepting the NPR505 insert style. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.1256 inches and an inscribed circle of 0.2490 inches, the 1849983 is well matched to finish and semi-finish turning passes where dimensional accuracy and surface finish consistency are critical production targets.
Designed for use in Top Notch series screw-held toolholders accepting the NPR505 insert style. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys and titanium as stated in manufacturer specifications. ISO cross-reference code is KCGX110301R15.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians with the machine spindle stopped and all axis motion locked out per facility lockout-tagout procedures. Use the correct torque-limiting screwdriver or T-key specified for the Top Notch toolholder to seat the clamp screw without over-torquing the insert pocket. Inspect the pocket and clamp screw for debris or wear before seating each new edge. Verify edge index position and runout before resuming cutting passes.
