The KENNAMETAL 1848593 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert in the SPGXHP style, designed for use in indexable insert drills in demanding metal-cutting operations. Ground to a square shape with a 90-degree included angle and an 11-degree relief angle, this insert provides positive cutting action and efficient chip evacuation. The KC7140 grade features a PVD-applied TiCN and TiN coating that extends tool life in abrasive and interrupted-cut applications. With a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 0.125-inch thickness, this insert fits standard SPGX-style drill bodies used in production and job-shop environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators handling hole-making operations are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for use in indexable drill bodies requiring an SPGX insert seat with a square geometry and HP chipbreaker. Typical applications include drilling in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials where PVD-coated carbide grades offer a balance of wear resistance and edge toughness. The neutral hand designation means the insert is not handed and can seat in compatible toolholders without orientation constraints. This insert is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for indexable drill bodies with SPGX-style square insert seats. Confirm seat geometry, insert size designation 060304, and hole diameter requirements against the drill body specification before installation.
Indexable drill inserts are installed and exchanged by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use a calibrated torque wrench and the fastener specified by the drill body manufacturer when seating the insert screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage each time an insert is indexed or replaced.
