The KENNAMETAL 1832378 is a WNMG432MP-style solid carbide turning insert in the KC5010 grade, designed for high-productivity metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating over a carbide substrate, delivering heat resistance and edge stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. It carries a neutral hand orientation, an 80-degree trigon shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The MP chip breaker geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge suit medium to finishing passes. Six cutting edges per insert maximize cost-per-edge value. This insert is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians in production and job-shop turning operations.
The 1832378 is engineered for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Its KC5010 grade with PVD TiAlN coating is well suited for conditions where heat generation and work hardening are primary concerns, as found in aerospace, medical, and precision manufacturing environments. The KENLOC series insert seats in compatible clamp-and-pin style toolholders. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making this insert appropriate for finishing and light semi-finish passes rather than heavy roughing cycles.
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement and standard-production insert for KENLOC series clamp-and-pin turning toolholders accepting WNMG432 geometry inserts. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P), stainless steel (M), and superalloys and titanium (S). Secondary workpiece material codes include N and P. Industry standard number is WNMG432MP per ANSI and ISO designations.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and secure the clamp and pin to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris that could cause improper seating and edge breakage.
