The KENNAMETAL 1824861 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation TCMT3252LF and ISO designation TCMT16T308, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process under the KC5010 grade. It features a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 7-degree relief angle, and a positive rake of 5 degrees. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (0.3750 inches), the corner radius is 1/32 inches (0.0313 inches), and the insert thickness is 5/32 inches (0.1563 inches). The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining operations. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in metalworking and precision machining install this insert.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The KC5010 grade delivers high wear-resistance with moderate toughness across these material groups, making it well-matched to finishing cuts at controlled chip loads. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). It is a neutral-hand insert designed for use with screw-on toolholders that accept TCMT-style inserts. Applications span general-purpose CNC turning centers and manual lathes in job shop and production environments.
Designed as an OEM-style screw-on replacement insert for TCMT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle triangular insert per ANSI TCMT3252 and ISO TCMT16T308 standards. Suitable for multi-use applications including turning, facing, and boring.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw with the appropriate Torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value. Inspect the insert seat and shim for debris or damage before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and edge geometry.
