The KENNAMETAL 1818919 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The insert has a left-hand orientation with a 4.80 mm (0.1890 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm (0.1500 inch). Grade KC5010 is optimized for steel and cast iron applications requiring a tough, wear-resistant edge. The K chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action, reducing cutting forces on workpieces and toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a direct replacement or planned tooling component in Top Notch-compatible holders.
This insert is suited for external grooving, recessing, and undercut operations in residential and industrial machine shop environments. It fits Top Notch series insert seats of size 3 and is intended for use in compatible KENNAMETAL Top Notch grooving toolholders. The NG insert style with an included angle of 55 degrees and a 0.57 mm corner radius (0.0225 inch) makes it appropriate for medium to fine grooving passes on steel and harder ferrous materials classified under material grades C3 and C4. Left-hand orientation dictates holder selection and cut direction before setup.
Designed for use in KENNAMETAL Top Notch series grooving toolholders accepting insert seat size 3 and the NG insert style. Left-hand orientation must match the toolholder configuration. Compatible with material grades C3 and C4 per the manufacturer grade KC5010 classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret indexed to a safe position before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the insert seat is clean and free of chips before locking the insert, as debris under the seating surface will cause insert rocking and premature failure. Verify left-hand holder orientation matches the programmed cut direction before resuming operation.
